NAUTIX

The NAUTIX project is developing innovative software for the autonomous navigation of small vessels based on LiDAR and sonar technology, which optimises navigation in real time. The system enables safer, shorter and more energy-efficient routes, helping to reduce CO₂ emissions and fuel consumption. As a digital product with a clear green impact, NAUTIX is a product innovation aligned with the goals of the digital and green transition of SMEs in Istria County.

The main function of the system is the automated generation of optimal routes between the vessel’s starting point and its destination, with dynamic real-time obstacle avoidance using data from LiDAR and sonar sensors and the A* path optimisation algorithm. The user enters the destination in a mobile application, and the system then manages navigation automatically, displaying the current location, obstacles, route and navigation status. NAUTIX is intended for users of smaller tourist, sports and private vessels, offering an affordable and scalable alternative to expensive autonomous systems based on radar and high-resolution cameras.

The key objective of the project is to significantly improve the safety, environmental efficiency and digital control of navigation in ports, bays, rivers and lakes by introducing a product innovation that directly contributes to the company’s green and digital transition. The project contributes to product innovation, more efficient use of resources, a reduced negative impact on the environment and the introduction of new digital services and solutions, strengthening the company’s long-term competitiveness and the innovation potential of the region.

• DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW DIGITAL APPLICATION: the NAUTIX autonomous navigation software for small and medium-sized vessels, based on the integration of LiDAR and sonar sensors
• INTRODUCTION OF INNOVATION IN PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES: at least 1 small or medium-sized enterprise (NOVATEC d.o.o.) introduces innovation in its products or processes
• NEWLY INTRODUCED INNOVATION FOCUSED ON THE GREEN AND DIGITAL TRANSITION: at least 1 newly introduced innovation in business organisation, processes or products/services
• CREATION OF NEW JOBS: at least 1 new job in the enterprise receiving support
• REDUCTION OF CO₂ EMISSIONS: an average annual reduction in CO₂ emissions of around 10 tonnes per vessel using the system
• INCREASED SAFETY AND EFFICIENCY OF NAVIGATION: automated obstacle avoidance and real-time route optimisation, with reduced fuel consumption and travel time
